Book 14 of 2019 was a blast. Theft by Finding (Diaries 1977-2002) by David Sedaris made me love the author even more than I already did, having read many of his previous books and one of my favorite New Yorker pieces of all time.

RATING — 5 out of 5

PROS
♦ Some of Sedaris’ wry and quirky observations (still thinking about his realization that he had become a denim jacket person) were so good that I had to read them aloud to whoever was nearby
♦ Fun, quick read. (A “summer read” that probably isn’t the obvious pick for a “summer read”.)
♦ Really interesting to see a completely different peek into the author’s life that has been previously illuminated in more curated fashion via his books. Fascinating to note the years when he journaled almost daily and years with fewer than a dozen entries.
♦ Huge smile came upon my face upon reading the diary entry when Sedaris meets his future husband, Hugh — and nonchalantly acts like he is just some guy

CONS
♦ Part 2 isn’t out yet?!

COVER ART RATING — 5 out of 5

Gorgeous. The designer/letterer created a beautiful work of art.

Would I recommend? Yes. I would even re-read this line by line so I can crack up with someone else about the funny and dark observations.
