The Hollywood Reporter 2020 Oscar Season

The Hollywood Reporter readers rely on the magazine for its in-depth coverage of Oscar contenders, and in 2020 we added another layer to that coverage with three daily issues prior to Oscar voting. Working with THR‘s team of designers and photo producers, I crafted and oversaw the visual presentation of all the coverage, including every special standalone issue, template design in the weekly issues, and unique feature layouts.

The Essential Guide

Just in time for the holidays, THR puts out a comprehensive guide of every top contender in the Oscar race. I designed the pages and oversaw the visual organization of the issue, ensuring an navigable combination of beautiful photography, small bits of information, and reviews of the films.

Daily Issues

To capitalize on a shortened voting and campaigning season, The Hollywood Reporter published 3 daily special awards coverage issues in January 2020. These issues required new front-of-book templates to facilitate quick turnaround while also indicating that the issues themselves were special publications.

Weekly Templates & Features

Throughout Oscar season coverage, every weekly issue of THR includes several front-of-book and feature pages dedicated to following the awards race. I designed flexible yet clear templates for both, including typography and color palette.

Special Features

Last but not least, THR‘s 2019-2020 Oscar-season coverage also included special, freshly designed features in each standalone issue. These ranged from profiles to intricate infographics.
